Your one, true Valentine...
Whether Valentine’s Day makes you excited or cringe, it’s coming!
And while this day has traditionally been reserved for expressing affection towards those who make your heart sing like Ricky Martin in the Super Bowl (I don’t care if my excitement means I’m old!), don’t forget that one special person…
The person who was there the moment you were born, has been with you every single second of your life (for better or worse), and will never leave your side until, as they say, death do you part.
Yourself.
So tell me, how’s that relationship going??
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, here are 4 thought-provoking journal prompts for you to better nourish, deepen, or even repair the relationship with yourself.
First, are you open to loving yourself?
If you struggle to feel self-love, you’re not alone. We can be pretty harsh on ourselves due to past mistakes, the way we compare ourselves to others, or even the way we compare ourselves with who we “think” we should be now.
Simply stating, “I am open to learning to love myself” is enough…the rest will follow.
What free form of self-care can you gift yourself this week? (Cough…schedule it!)
Self-care doesn’t have to be a full spa day — it’s a few deep breaths, a night in with a candle and tea, your favorite movie or book, stretching…anything that honors your mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual needs.
What is one thing you love or appreciate about yourself?
Maybe it’s a passion you enjoy, a unique talent that you have, an accomplishment you are proud of, or even a quality you exude like humor, positivity, or stoicism.
What is one thing you love or appreciate about your body?
Oof! This one can be triggering. For those who struggle with body image, it can be helpful to remember the function of your body first.
For example, loving and appreciating your body’s ability to breathe on its own, that your heart is beating, or honoring the gift of (at whatever level you have) your sight, hearing or the ability to speak.
By nourishing the relationship you have with yourself, you allow your heart to open and more fully give and receive love with others.
I wish you all a beautiful week of Love, and don’t forget that there is absolutely zero limit to how much chocolate you can or should have on the 14th. Live those dreams.
